The best gift my parents gave me was the word of God---internalized via songs, recitation, study,
meditation, discussion, and life.
When I was pregnant with our first child, my husband Bruce asked me to sing the baby the Psalms.
“Sing the baby
the Psalms?” I queried.
“Yes, sing the baby the Psalms.”
So I opened the Bible and started to sing. That connected with my parents’ investment in us (both through
Scripture and music) and began what has now been 29 years of learning to sing God’s word.
When I was about 18 or 19, one day I was sitting on my bed reading I Peter, and 4: 10 seemed to leap off the
page at me. “As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the grace of God
in its various forms.” And as I Corinthians 4:4 reminds us, “It is required of stewards, that they be found
faithful.”
In light of these instructions from the Lord, it has been my desire to share these songs—which initially were
for personal worship and sharing with the offspring God entrusted to us--with the rest of the Body of Christ for
their edification.
Through the gracious help of our daughter Charity, who introduced us to music software and entered a number of
the songs into the computer; the generosity of son-in-law and daughter Jake and Esther, who gifted us with the
software; the expertise and flexible availability of Mike Rosen to coach me over and over in using the software;
the graciousness and availability of Robert Jones, who offered to teach my youngest
daughter web development and guide her in building the website; the enthusiasm of her to learn this skill and
her willingness to use it to serve the Body; the participation and input of all of our children who over the
years sang and offered suggestions and encouragement in the song-making progress; the generosity of those who
translated the World English Bible and made it available to the public domain so that God’s word can be shared
more freely; and most of all God’s enablement and amazing orchestration of all of the aspects of the
project…this desire is coming to fruition.
My prayer is that these songs will facilitate many to “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom
teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart
to God’ (Colossians 3:16 WEB).
